The Springmaid Beach Resort, located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has hosted its Winter Arts & Craft Show annually in December since 1986. Located in the northern part of South Carolina's Low Country, Myrtle Beach offers a nice winter retreat for arts and craft vendors and aficionados. Vendor attendance at this event now tops 200. These vendors specialize in a wide variety of craftwork and artistry, including dolls, handmade candles, quilts, homemade food, stained glass, watercolors, and woodworking.
The Springmaid Beach Resort & Conference Center, the host of the Winter Arts and Crafts Festival, has its own interesting history. It was created by Col. Elliott White Springs, a World War I ace fighter pilot, who inherited his father's cotton mill empire. As many mill owners did during the heyday of the mill towns that dotted the American Southeast, took care of his employees by creating the Springmaid Beach resort as an affordable recreational facility, as well as numerous swimming pools, community centers, and golf courses. The resort is now open to the public.
The Winter Arts and Crafts Show runs Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check the Springmaid Beach Resort's Web site annually for the exact dates. Parking and admission is free for the weekend event. There are also food and beverage vendors at the event providing refreshments. The resort is located at 3200 S. Ocean Blvd...
