The history of this special day goes back to March 11, 1988, when a group of individual entrepreneurs extended the Can-Am (Canada-American) Week Celebration in North Myrtle Beach by adding another new and unique activity--the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival--staging it at North Myrtle Beach's Surfwood Shopping Center until 1992. Growing in popularity and size, it was at that time moved to Ocean Boulevard and Main Street for a larger area.
Over twenty years has brought about many changes in the parade and its festival atmosphere with many Grand Marshalls, bands, floats, marching units, community groups, and service organizations. In the past year or so, over 30,000 attendees have been provided food, entertainment, arts, and crafts. Now it is the highlight of the Can-Am week's activities.
