The Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival is held at
Huntington Beach State Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Atalaya is a historic castle and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. This is a prestigious arts and crafts festivals that attract a large number of tourists and visitors every September. The site is also available for weddings, special gatherings or receptions.
The Spanish word for Atalaya is "watchtower". It is a coastal fortress that has images of El Cid and Reconquista. This was built by Archer Huntington, who is the son of shipping and railroad magnate. The Festival is held every year to many, and it as made known to many the enchanted castle on the beach.
There are 184 sites on the park's campground. There are some sites that are reserved for $1 extra per night. The rest of the sites can be seen on a first come, first served basis. There are series of programs and history at the Huntington Beach that brings the park to life. The park is three miles to the south of
Murrells Inlet, 15 miles north of Georgetown and 17 miles to the south of Myrtle Beach.
Invitations are sent to artists who can showcase their work at the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival. The artists are selected by a panel of judges. Their work has a wide range of media from clay to metal and wearable fabric. These artists hail from Carolinas, Florida, Michigan, Virginia, Georgia, and Arizona. The Festival along with the high quality of art also provides live music and food court that offer seafood dishes, culinary delights, and barbecue from the restaurants nearby.
