Harleys roar, neon sports bikes purr and sleek custom cruisers glide into Myrtle Beach on the Memorial Day Weekend. This is all part of the Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Weekend Bike Festival. It is the largest event of its original kind — a heaven and haven for those who love motorcycles.
The Memorial Day Weekend Bike Festival began as a weekend event in 1980. It started as a cross-country rally for black bikers on Atlantic Beach. Today, it is a 5-day festival. The bikes still roar into town but the celebration now continues beyond Atlantic Beach. The Memorial Day motorcycle event now stretches across Myrtle Beach and further onto the
Grand Strand.
This, the former Black Bikes Week, now explodes in a celebration of everything bikes. You can see almost any type of motorcycle you ever dreamed of if you come to see this Festival. The bikes and their riders come from all across the country. There are also vendors selling bike-related paraphernalia and custom designs. You can purchase trinkets, souvenirs and items of various unusual kinds from the craft booths.
The Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Weekend Bike Festival also provides food for the thousands of people who throng here. You can find food vendors in different spots. You can always smell the BBQ grilling as you walk along the beach and through various regions. You can also abandon hope and attend one of the many parties occurring through the area in conjunction with the Festival. Sit, eat and listen to the live entertainment.
