Labor Day Weekend at the former Air force Base, Valor Park, in Myrtle Beach, SC, is the time to come out to the Beach Boogie & BBQ, the official barbeque tasting competition of South Carolina. where you can also compete in or watch the barbeque sandwich eating competition, watch the car show, join the games and boat rides, listen to live entertainment and more.
The Barbeque taste testing competition, Smoke on The Beach, is hosted by the Omar Temple Shrine, and will commence on the Friday night where teams will compete to win the prizes that will tantalize your taste buds, including all types of barbeques and sauces, (with the exception of pork) and desserts. Cash prizes totaling $20,000 will be awarded for best barbeque and best booth showmanship setups. The public can purchase the delicious food guaranteed to please your palate after the contest judging on Friday and Saturday.
The second contest, The International Federation of Competitive Eating BBQ Sandwich Eating Championship, hosted by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and Major League Eating Association, is a free event held on Center Stage, South side of lake.
Wheels at the Beach, hosted by the Myrtle Beach Car club, is a two hour car exhibition. Prizes are award in the following categories: Best of Show, Media Choice, People's Choice, Best Engine, Best Paint, Ladie's Choice, Best Work in Progress, and others. The festival has door prizes, for spectators as well.
You may become South Carolina Education Lottery's "That's the Ticket" big scratch and draw grand prizewinner of $50,000 trip of your dreams, or you may be lucky enough to win some of the other great prizes in this lottery draw held at the festival.
The festival is free and a free shuttle service is provided to get around the exhibits, events, and games for the children, live band concerts and more.
