Harold Brasington saw more than just a patch of dirt in the autumn of 1949 in a time worn cotton field in west rural Darlington. He had a dream of turning it into a super speedway for stock cars. Everyone thought him crazy but he began to build the 1.25 miles of speedway where once cotton and peanuts had grown.
Today, known as “The Lady in Black” and the “Too Tough to Tame”, we have the Darlington Raceway which is one of the backbones of NASCAR`s beginnings and a testament to loyal fans and drivers who planted the seeds of stock car races.
For years the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 race has remained the proceeding race for the Southern 500.

The whole weekend here at Darlington is a huge event and the whole town seems to shut down and turn into race central. And with it being so close to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, it brings a lot of people for the weekend to check out NASCAR`s very first speedway.
This track has a large assortment of options for seating, from the towers looking down over the whole track, to the ever popular grandstand, which is covered.
