Each year, the Franklin G Burroughs – Simeon B Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina hosts a family event in celebration of El Dia de los Muertos, which is the Mexican holiday translated as “Day of the Dead.” This holiday is somewhat like a cross between Halloween and Memorial Day. It is a family holiday that allows them to show respect and memorialize their loved ones who have passed away.
The festival, which takes place in early November, includes a variety of exciting activities for families. Mexican dance and Mariachi are included in the festival, and there are opportunities to make and break a piñata. Visitors will also learn about traditional Mexican children’s games. Sometimes festival attendees get to experience a ritual Aztec Dance. Visitors can also sample Mexican chocolate.
This event is the perfect cultural and educational experience for families because of the variety of activities and the chance to learn about an important Mexican holiday.
