Labor Day Weekend in Myrtle Beach

Labor Day celebrations at Celebrity Square in the Broadway at the Beach complex begin Friday at 10 a.m. and continue through the weekend.  Four days of sidewalk sales, street parties, strolling musicians, open-air concerts, food vendors from more than twenty restaurants, and fireworks Saturday night provide non-stop celebrations on the Grand Strand.   Similar festivities are planned at Barefoot Landing, another food, shopping and entertainment complex in Myrtle Beach.

'Beach Boogie & BBQ' draws the summer Sun Fun Festival to a close. Barbecue teams compete in the annual 'Smoke on the Beach BBQ Competition' giving barbecue buffs a chance to share their love of slow cooking and enjoy an overnight stay on the beach. Cooking starts at 4 p.m Friday and meat is judged at 9 a.m. Saturday. Spectators may sample the food after judging.  Classic cars compete for prizes in the annual 'Wheels at the Beach' car show, beginning 9 a.m. Saturday.    Visitors are permitted to vote in the people's-choice category  Live music, giveaways, boat rides, arts and crafts vendors continue throughout the weekend. Events take place at the former Air Force Base at Valor Park (off Farrow Parkway.)

The annual Mini Golf Tournament to benefit Muscular Dystrophy tees off Saturday 10 a.m. at the Dragon's Lair in Broadway at the Beach.   Young and old compete for prizes in several categories.  Greens fees and lunch are included in the ticket price, which also includes free admission to Ripley's Aquarium as a Labor Day bonus.

An amateur adult baseball tournament is held at The Ripken Experience.  This wood-bat-only event offers anyone over the age of 18 a chance to play in a world-class baseball complex.  Players get full-access to the three-acre training island designed by Hal Ripken. There is a tournament fee, but admission to watch the games is free.

These are just some of the activities on the Grand Strand Labor Day weekend.  Further information can be obtained by contacting the Myrtle Beach Visitors Center at 1200 North Oak Street or visit their extensive website.
