The Town Clock in the Old Market Building is what the Rice Museum is called by the locals because it`s an outstanding representation of Georgetown County. Visitors to the museum are able to see just what it was like for an area to be almost totally dependent on a rice crop.
By 1750, Georgetown was the core for the production of rice for the colony. Unbelievably, by 1840 it produced almost half of the whole rice crops in the USA.
The Lafayette Park envelopes the Rice Museum and is a beautiful urban greenspace along the Sampit River banks.
The Low Country Artists Annual Exhibition is a must to see and experience here in Georgetown. This exhibition showcases art exceptionally created by local and award winning artists.
Here you would be able gaze upon some truly amazing works done by locals that attract both national as well as international collectors. The styles of the works are many, including collage and pastel, colored pencil and oils, watercolor and photography as well as acrylics. There are portraits and still life and landscapes and abstracts. There truly is something to everyone`s liking.
Also you will get to see stunning pottery and blown glass and sculpture.
It`s a lovely day in all and don`t forget to take time to check out Georgetown itself. Loads to look at and feel the history surrounding this place. You will definitely receive a warm welcome!
