The Carolina Opry Christmas Special is one of the most popular holiday traditions in the South for more than twenty years. Begun as a three-day program with only five shows in 1986, the spectacular event has grown to over sixty performances during November and December. The show is a celebration of Christmas music and American holiday tradition, combined with Yuletide comedy and dancing. The orchestra, singing, choreography and costuming highlight the talents of thirty-five members of the Carolina Opry.
Each year new numbers are added, but there are songs and renditions that audiences look forward to every year, like 'The Twelve Days of Christmas" performed by a carefree and spirited full cast. The show's finale is an emotional and heartfelt religious tribute to the holiday. The Carolina Opry, under the direction of Calvin Gilmore, performs year-round combining music, comedy and dance from Broadway, country, pop, rock 'n roll, gospel and bluegrass. The ensemble has received every top tourism award in South Carolina and regularly is acclaimed in the national media.
Curtain times for the Christmas Special are 7 p.m., daily except Sunday. Matinees are at 1 p.m.; days vary. There are no performances on Thanksgiving, or December 22 through 25. Schedules are subject to change without notice.
