The Charles Pinckney National Historic Site, 1254 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant, near Myrtle Beach, SC, holds one of the eight remaining revolutionary war museums dedicated to a historical signer of the Declaration of Independence. Charles Pinckney was also known as Snee Farm. The Snee Farm plantation and the Museum rest on the 750 acres of South Carolina National Park.
The Charles Pinckney National Historic Site is dedicated to recounting the history of slavery, through various exhibits as well as archeological digs, agricultural history, and more. The Charles Pinckney National Historic Site was created to honor Pinckney's role in the development of the small independent colonies into a nation. It emphases his role in developing the constitution and highlights the African American contribution to agriculture at the Snee Farm. The museum itself is actually a post revolutionary house built around 1828.
Charles Pinckney - Oct 26, 1757 — Oct 29 — 1824 born in Charleston South Carolina, was a staunch supporter of equal rights for all men who served as a lieutenant in the Charleston Regiment of South Carolina's militia against the British for the Independence of the American Colonies and went on to support and fashion a strong American Government. The Snee Farm and plantation is an important slice of history, not only because of the famous time period but also as vehicle to understanding the man in his own environment that led the forming, the struggles, and triumphs of the first 40 years of the new nation called the United States of America.
