The quaint little town of Loris is situated near Myrtle Beach in South California. It is an up and coming town, growing fast. Therefore, it is still going through travails of growth. You can easily get a feel of the once small old town, its friendly environment and sincere and loving people. Though the population of the town does not exceed 3,000, it has a very sophisticated hospital with the state-of-the art technology. There is a health and fitness center in it and also an extended health care facility.
The central part of Loris still retains its original architecture that characterized its buildings way back in 1902. These quaint old buildings still maintain their old world charm. The town retains the eateries, antique stores and special boutiques that still continue to sell the items handcrafted by the local artisans.
An important feature that distinguishes Loris from other towns in the area is the annual festival called Louis Bog-Off. Strange as it may appear the festival has been given this name after a local dish called bog. A bog is made out of a chicken, rice and some kind of pork like sausage, bacon and a certain kind of seasoning. A competition in cooking the best bog is the main attraction of the festival. There are several chefs who participate in the contest and judges who declare the winning dish.
Loris is situated about thirty minutes away from Myrtle Beach. Although tourists come to this area mainly to see Myrtle Beach, there is something about Loris that attracts them in large numbers.
During the Loris Bog-Off Festival the city of Loris goes all out to ensure that the Myrtle Beach area is filled with excitement and entertainment for everyone.
