Ocean Drive, or South Carolina Highway 65, is referred to by locals as the “OD” and brings tourists from across the country for weeklong “Shagging” events from April to September.
This stretch of highway is so popular there are even clubs named after it, which help to promote Carolina beach music and hope to preserve The Shag as a cultural and historical asset to the Grand Strand area of South Carolina. Because of its location, Ocean Drive has many hotel, restaurants and attractions catering to locals and tourists.
Visitors will enjoy spending some time at the OD Pavilion & Amusement Park, which highlights the Ocean Drive of years gone by. Ripley’s Moving Theatre offers visitors a multi-sensory movie experience complete with hydraulic seats that move and vibrate to help completely immerse you in the action.
Lodging is in abundance along Ocean Drive. Stay at Ocean Forest Villas located on 10 acres of beautiful beachfront property in the Pine Lakes Area of Myrtle Beach or the Best Western Grand Strand Inn & Suites, an oceanfront property that caters to families and is within 15 minutes of everything you could possibly want to see and do. Whether your time is spent exclusively on Ocean Drive or Myrtle Beach as a whole, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy in this fabulous resort town.
